  Ingredients

1. Wash, dry and chop basil. Set aside some whole leave for garnishing. Peel and mince the onions and garlic. Cook them in a pan with a little olive oil. Add the tomatoes, the oregano and 1 tablespoon of chopped basil. Season with salt and pepper, then incorporate the sugar and cayenne pepper. Lower the heat and leave it to cook to 20 minutes.

2. Peel and mince the remaining garlic and onion. Mix with the minced beef, the dried crumbs from the milk-soaked bread, the eggs, the cumin and 1 tablespoon of basil. Season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly then form the meatballs by rolling the beef in the palm of your hands. Coat the meatballs in flour before browning them in an oiled hot pan.

3. Preheat the oven at 200 °C. Drain the mozzarella and cut into slices. Divide the meatballs in a casserole dish. Top them with the tomato sauce and then add the mozzarella slices. Bake for 20 minutes. Garnish with the basil leaves and serve immediately from the dish.
