Prosciutto simply means “ham” in Italian. A popular product for its salt-cured process that delivers refined and smoky tastes.
Gourmet resume:
Prosciutto usually is a dry-cured ham (prosciutto crudo). When the ham is cooked, the Italians speak of cooked ham or prosciutto cotto. The famous Parma ham is one of the best prosciuttos.
In the kitchen:
To make delicious appetizer bites, cut dates into two, remove the kernel and stuff with fromage frais or cream cheese. Wrap it with a very thin slice of prosciutto. Place it in your oven broiler and cook for about 10 minutes at 150 °C (th. 5).
