Bread Steet Kitchen interior

Seconds after its opening, the much-anticipated Bread Street Kitchen by chef Gordon Ramsay was already tearing passions. From enthusiasm to disappointment, everyone was sharing their says and emotions on the matter. But one thing is for sure: chef Ramsay surely does leave an impression!

Joining the club of celebrity chefs of the iconic Marina Bay Sands, Bread Street Kitchen occupies two floors which provide different atmospheres. On the first floor, the room faces the waterfront, adorned by the sunlight. On the other hand, the basement premises invite to a warmer and more intimate experience with an open-kitchen.

Sticking to an industrial design, the space remains overall true to the original London venue. As we were handed the menu, we appreciated the short format as well which in straightforward manner – just like Ramsay himself – it displays a wise choice of starters, salads, mains, grills, sides and desserts. Same is true for the cocktail and spirit menu. All items are curated by chef Ramsay and executed by chef Sabrina Stillhart who is the executive chef of the Singapore establishment, who has been working alongside the acclaimed chef for almost a decade.

Kicking off the dinner with a selection of hot and cold starters, we first noticed the clean and neat presentation of the plates. One of our favourite items was the ‘flatbread, butternut squash, Taleggio cheese, mushrooms, pine nuts and basil pesto‘ (SGD20++).  The butternut squash balanced the Italian cheese and basil and the combination of flavours worked very well. Afterwards we bit into the sweet and sour ‘tamarind spiced chicken wings, spring onions and coriander‘ (SGD18++) where marrying the coriander to the spices enhanced the tangy aromas. We had to use our fingers with this one!

For mains, we could not help but choose the ‘traditional fish and chips, crushed peas and tartar sauce‘ (SGD26++), and it was by far the best we have had. The crispy batter contrasted by the moist flesh inside was perfection. The portion is generous and the sauce and fries were also delightful. The bonus? A pea mash, bringing a refreshing note to the whole dish. It was so good that we regretted not having more on the plate.

The second item we relished in was the ‘slow-roasted Dingley Dell pork belly, spiced apple puree‘ (SGD28++). Again, it was a hit. The golden skin was crackling perfectly with a tender meat underneath. The rich dish is complemented with a smooth spiced apple mash.

In case you are still hungry, we recommend ordering the all-star ‘macaroni cheese with garlic roasted crumbs‘ (SGD16++). Creamy, buttery and cheesy – it will bring back good old memories for sure.

Despite starting to get full, we still managed to find some room for desserts. No fuss nor fancy plates, but simple yet scrumptious desserts. We surprisingly found ourselves fighting to get more of these yummy treats. That’s another way of saying  that once you find yourself here, desserts are not to be missed! With many luscious and scrumptious sweet treats, the choice was hard to make. However, our votes go without a doubt to the ‘banana stick toffee pudding, muscovado caramel and clotted cream‘ (SGD18++) and the ‘Monkey Shoulder Cranachan cheesecake with roasted balsamic strawberries‘ (SGD18++) – they were the quickest to disappear from the table!

With its family-friendly and lively atmosphere, Bread Street Kitchen offers an upgraded bistro cuisine. All dishes are easy to share and the ambiance is relaxed. Some prices might appear expensive for a casual venue, but let’s be honest, you are dining at the Marina Bay Sands in one of the celebrity chefs’ restaurants, so you do know what to expect.
