And while we admire their cuisine and style - we try to book the best table, with the secret hope that the Chef will be waiving at us - we actually forget the long road and sacrifices they had to go through to achieve this level.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;So instead of visiting yet another new &#039;concept restaurant&#039;, this time we made our reservation at &#60;a href=&#34;http://west.ite.edu.sg/soh/SitePages/Chez%20West.aspx?utm_source=rss_feed&#38;#038;utm_medium=link&#38;#038;utm_campaign=unknown&#34; target=&#34;_blank&#34;&#62;Chez West&#60;/a&#62;, the training restaurant of ITE culinary school, and where it all begins.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;ITE in collaboration with the prestigious French &#60;strong&#62;Institut Paul Bocuse &#60;/strong&#62;(named after the legendary chef who still remains in charge of the kitchen of his culinary empire) is providing besides the courses, a space for the students to be hands-on in the kitchen and in the restaurant room. It gives them a better understanding of what running a restaurant involves, facing pleasant and difficult guests, handling their requests, and everything in between.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;The restaurant prides itself in offering French cuisine and even aspires to be a &#039;fine-dining&#039; experience. And as home cooks everywhere, we always welcome new tips and dishes to try our hands on.&#60;br /&#62; That&#039;s why when we hear about cooking classes, we&#039;re first in line to give them a go - especially when they have an interesting concept and approach to make them stand out from the rest.&#60;br /&#62; &#60;a href=&#34;http://abc-cooking.com.sg/?utm_source=rss_feed&#38;#038;utm_medium=link&#38;#038;utm_campaign=unknown&#34; target=&#34;_blank&#34;&#62;ABC Cooking Studio&#60;/a&#62; offers just that. With trained home cooks acting as instructors, you can rest assured that they will walk you through the process with patience and less pressure than what you&#039;d have were it a pro chef who was conducting the class.&#60;br /&#62; With a choice of three dishes to cook at their trial class, we went for the Japanese hamburger, with rice on the side and onion soup option. After all, who wouldn&#039;t want to learn how to make a juicy home-made burger?&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;Our teacher - and manager of the Singapore branch - Miwa san, could sense our stress to start with so she kindly made us feel at ease and promptly handed the aprons, and we were ready to go. At our station, all ingredients and material were already prepared with the recipe sheet describing all steps to achieve the perfect dish.&#60;br /&#62; Right from the start she let us work by ourselves, yet correcting the way we were cutting ingredients, following the instructions and reminding us of the saucepan left on the heat&#8230; Sorry!&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;We even saw the basics in a new light such as learning how to dice and chop onions in a faster and safer way. Once the beef patty was done, we moved on to the sauce. ABC cooking Studio takes pride in promoting organic and healthy products, which also means that everything is made from scratch. For instance the gravy was a combination of flour, soy sauce and oil. Beautiful, delicate and sophisticated, it is truly a handcrafted piece of art. By using seasonal fruits, flowery notes and vibrant colours, chef &#60;strong&#62;Pang Kok Keong&#60;/strong&#62; has managed to put a little piece of summer on a plate.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;After tasting the mini portions of their latest editions, we were particularly gobsmacked by the pistachio and raspberry cake named &#039;&#60;strong&#62;Summer&#60;/strong&#62;&#039;. With the right balance of sweetness, fruit and nutty flavours, the cake is a delight for the eyes - with its authentic bucolic decor - as it is for the palate. A light ending to cap off any meal.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;The chef&#039;s version of&#60;strong&#62; Pavlova&#60;/strong&#62; is another delicacy that is difficult to get your eyes and hands off. Staring at the pastel colour of the generous rose and yuzu cream, we simply felt like using our fingers for an even guiltier pleasure. The best part? Discovering the refreshing pieces of lychee hidden in the chantilly once you dig into it.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Orangette&#60;/strong&#62; is the French name for chocolate candied peels. So obviously, translating this into a cake can not be wrong. True chocolate lovers will go for this velvety and creamy dessert. The strong dark chocolate mousse enhances the orange flavour for a lovely burst of flavour in your mouth.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Lemon Tart&#60;/strong&#62; is another interpretation of one of the most popular and zesty pastries out there. Well, it&#039;s never too late to know that is where you get to witness pastry chefs create edible art, including our very own brilliant talents from the region. If you&#039;ve yet to guess, we&#039;re talking about a premium international chocolate competition.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;Held every two years in Paris since 2005, the challenging finale gathers twenty of the best pastry/ chocolate chefs worldwide. The qualified contestants have to go through a three-day competition that follows a knock out approach. On the last day, only ten finalists will get the coveted chance to take the title home.&#60;/p&#62; &#60;p&#62;This year&#039;s theme, &#8216;Inspiration from Nature&#8217;, requires entrants to incorporate natural ingredients, shapes, colours and scents in their assignments.
