Bloomingville

Set your table starting with the placing of a tablecloth, or placemats for a more casual look and feel.  Then, you can place, in that order: dinner plates – and starter plates/bowls if you are serving a starter-, cutlery, glasses and napkins. Only after that, you can start decorating your dining table with flowers and candle holders.

In terms of tableware, the trend is all about minimalism. Put back multicoloured and chintzy glasses, cups and plates in your drawers. Of late, streamline tableware reaches the dining table with its delicate and straight lines, without sparkle nor glitter, by imposing its cool elegance.

Established Scandinavian brands like Bloomingville and House Doctor have come out this season with a range of minimalist tableware.  Hand painted dinner and dessert plates are made of ceramic.  Tones used are generally shades of grey and marsala (Pantone color of the year 2015), resulting in a beautiful collection of blush pink and light grey plates. These plates have a very short edge (3 to 5mm) looking as if they were completely flat and adding to the minimalist look and feel.
Bloomingville has recently launched these ceramic cups in unique color combinations (pastels and dark colours) and interesting surface textures. The new Holly tableware collection which trademark is the crosses is just perfect for summer!

At Broste Copenhagen, another Danish brand for the home, the minimalism lies in these Japanese art influenced dinner and dessert plates. The brand has created a whole collection (called ‘Skagen String’) which means you can match the plates with bowls and mugs.

To conclude, prefer ceramics to porcelain, pastels to bright colours, minimalism to an overloaded table setting. You can always add a centrepiece to elegantly spice up your dining table.
